... will the OSX install disc boot from the external drive or do I need to replace my main HD, then install osx, then replace the optical drive?
also, time machine will have no trouble right?
If you have an external USB DVD ROM drive - yes, OSX DVD will boot from it (that's how I installed) - just press alt when starting up and select it for boot.
Otherwise if you leave the current disk as it is - it will boot from there and then you can clone it to SSD and then boot from SSD and reformat the older drive. Not recommended if you have lots of stuff on the old drive - fresh install cloning is fine as the previous poster said.
Time Machine should not have any trouble at all.

My D2 is noiser than my iMac, but I think it depends on your luck with what manufacturers drive is inside it. I got stuck with a Maxtor sadly :(
However noise aside it's great. Not had experience of the Porsche cases, but I gained the impression that it was just a different case design - so go for the one you like the look of.

I usually end up getting the third version like yellow, crystal, and emerald. I have to get me a DS first.

a G3 iBook would be best, IMO.
The airport cards can be hard to find, and be sure to max out the ram.
I had one, then it got passed to my bro, and it's still chugging along. Just watch out for logic board probs. :)

Hi,
Has anyone been able to force an apple store to guarantee a Lion O/S upgrade for free with the purchase of a Macbook pro now?
Just curious.
Thanks!
Usually the Up-to-Date programs start on the day the announce the release date (or announce something more specific than "summer"--like a month) and end a few months after the release.
The Snow Leopard UTD lasted from June 8 to December 29.

I was given some Harman Kardon soundsticks for Christmas but they stopped working after 3 months, and they were too quiet anyway. Can anyone recommend some 2.1 speakers that do not pick up mobile phone interference please?
TIA
Kenchie.

You're pretty pissed ... rather beyond pissed? And people tell me to relax!
It is the holiday season, I would expect much less than a **** ton of bundles.
I just can't understand why they can't sell things separately and then give you a discount when you buy the two things together (since that's basically what they're doing with Kinect bundles and game bundles).
So now I'm going to have to wait a week for a stand-alone 4gb, or cough up another $100 for things that I don't even want so that I can have something to do over my winter break. I honestly don't remember all of this bundle crap existing when I bought my 360 ~4 years ago, you had the option of buying the system alone and that was it.
So yeah I am pissed off.

I can agree with the OP. The other day at BestBuy they didn't have 4gb in stock but I managed to find one. Thinking I was the man by finding the last and hidden 4gb only to get to the register to have it rung up at $240. Turns out it was one of those bundles that came with three lego games. :(

Why not just use Migration Assistant? I used that to transition my wife from an old PowerBook G4 to a MacMini and it was really simple. There were a few quirks since the other was such an old computer using a PowerPC chip, but it made the whole process really simple. I'm now kicking myself for not doing that when I bought my MacPro back in 2009.
Noticed that when I booted up and then I saw your post. Excellent recommendations. I used the migration assistant and everything is transferring now.
Thanks again to you both. =D

Somehow, someway. It would take this site to a whole new level. One thing I don't like (in any forum) is having to scroll through a thread to see if someone replied to my post or search my username to do so. I wonder how difficult it would be to implement something like this.

O by the way Dreadnought. I plan on passing you! I have had one work unit turned in on my mac pro now it was worth 700 points and it took 22 hours. I have also lost a work unit which gaves errors(this was before the SMP client when public beta) However I have one sitting on my computer at home finished, I just found out how to upload it. I had a configuration thing set wrong. And I will have another one done by the end of today. :) I will catch up pretty fast with your current output. ;)

The only one I have: U2 Live at Slane. But these were excellent as well:
Concert for George
Yanni at the Acropolis
a Don Henley/Eagles concert where they played Dirty Laundry and all lined up and jumped up and down.
All were great.

You can perform conversions from any number system in the same way. Each position has a value based on it's distance from the . separating the whole portion from the fractional portion (decimal point in decimal). The position just to the left of this point is the 0th position, and this goes up as you move left and down as you move right, so:
1076.235
Position 3: 1
Position 2: 0
Position 1: 7
Position 0: 6
Position -1: 2
Position -2: 3
Position -3: 5
Each position's value is the base of the numbering system raised to the power of this position, so:
1*(x^3) + 0*(x^2) + 7*(x^1) + 6*(x^0) + 2*(x^-1) + 3*(x^-2) + 5*(x^-3)
so let's say this is an octal value:
1*(8^3) + 0*(8^2) + 7*(8^1) + 6*(8^0) + 2*(8^-1) + 3*(8^-2) + 5*(8^-3)
1*512 + 0*64 + 7*8 + 6*1 + 2*(1/8) + 3*(1/64) + 5*(1/512)
512 + 0 + 56 + 6 + 1/4 + 3/64 + 5/512
574 + 128/512 + 24/512 + 5/512
574 + 157/512
~574.306641 base 10 equals (approximately) 1076.235 base 8
Chances are the bases you'll deal with are 2,8,10, and 16. Even base 8 has fallen out of favor, but i guess it's worth working with. If you're doing this by hand, and you're moving between 2,8, and 16 there are some "tricks". Every octet is 3 bits, every hexit is 4 bits. Knowing this you can do conversions from either of these bases to base 2 or back again pretty quickly and easily with grouping. Note that between 2,8, and 16 you can exactly represent anything from one of these bases in one of the others. This isn't so with base 10, so we end up making approximations because converting from one of the other bases to base 10 can give us an irrational number, and some decimal numbers with a fractional part cannot be represented in binary at all, so they have to be estimated.

I just purchased the base model 27" last night and had the same query. A friend confirmed that if only using for photo/video editing, 512mb is enough, RAM upgrade is more important which you can do in future.
So the GPU btw 512mb/1GB doesnt make alot different ?
I think to get MarBookPro add RAM to 8GB (more portable usage for travel)
13-inch: 2.7 GHz or 15-inch: 2.0 GHz ? (main for H.264 & Photo edit) AdobeCS5/FCP/LR/AP3
pls advice.

I am very surprised that your parents policy does not cover yours- if you are family and living there it should, but again every policy is different. So you might see if it is cheaper to just add your stuff to their policy if their company allows it.

I'm excited to get my MacBook Pro (probably this week) and start on it...although the F@H website does not have an Intel version yet.
Would it be possible to run the Linux version on your MBP? Linux and BSD (Which Mac OS X is based on) are very similar.
