Hi all,
Just purchased my first mac and have a couple of questions.
1. When I use an external monitor and choose mirroring to show on the external the display is really bad compared to the laptop. How do I fix this, I want the external display to look as crisp as the laptop. Also, I'm using the HDMI adapter. When i go to display properties it shows 1280 x 800 is max I think...Any ideas?
2. Why won't safari pages and itunes go to full display? Does that make sense? All i get is the small pages when you open them up. I see the green button but it dosen't seem to fix my problem.
I'm sure I will have more as I get more into this.

Interesting to see a bunch of you use your cameras less now.
So no one's tried the telescopic/telephoto lenses?

Is there any way to silence once and for all a Blu-Ray burner in Mac Pro (No disk inside). I have tried two different units, one from LG and another from HP. They sometimes began to emit annoying sound, as in old western movies (night scenes), if you know what i mean.
Is it some kind of oscillation or what?

It's wrong because you want room for doubles, but get space for double *s. These are different types with different sizes. On platforms where sizeof(double) == sizeof(double *) your code will work. On platforms where this is not true you will not have the right amount of space. In most cases you will have too little space, not too much.

I was just curious as I use EyeTV on my Mac Minis and was curious as to whether a SSD would help improve things. I guess I'll need to consider upgrading to the 2011 Mac Mini too when it comes out.

Hey guys!
Well, I've been a long-time reader of the forums, but I haven't done hardly any posting as of yet. I decided that it was finally my turn to post up a review of a case that I just got for my iPod Touch 4.
Now, this is my very first review, so please feel free to ask all the questions that you would like, and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge.
Also, I am at work now so I can't include photos, but I will make sure to add them into this original post as soon as I get home.
So, the case that I purchased was the "Melkco Leather case for Apple iPod Touch 4th" sold by carrymobile.com (link here (http://www.carrymobile.com/scripts/main/viewitem-A1ITO4LCFT1BK-ITO4.html))
Pros: I really love everything about this case! Specifically:
-It feels really durable. I feel like I could throw this thing accross the room and it would be fine
-The magnetic-snap is very good quality, I don't feel like it would ever come undone without me deliberately opening it
-The ports are open, so you can charge it, plug in headphones, hear the speaker, and record voice with no issue (I have tested these)
-It looks super sexy! I love the leather with white stitching, I think it looks fantastic. It's not too bulky, but enough padding that my iPod feels protected
-Design: I'm not sure if it was planned like this, but you can fold back the front cover all the way back and snap it again, and there is enough of a gap there that I can slide my 4-fingers up to almost my palm, and the iPod stays with no fear of it slipping. I do the same when it is in landscape mode (for playing games, for example). I don't feel like I have to grip it, it feels like it just molds to my hand. I will attach pics later on with exactly what I'm talking about.
Cons:
-This is a very small issue, but you cannot charge it while it is snapped shut. I recognized this before I even purchased the product, and it doesn't bother me at all, as the flap still stays down, but it must be unsnapped
-The cameras are just a little bit blocked. The hole on the front (for the Facetime camera) is just a LITTLE bit too low, so you get a black shadow on the top of your pictures unless you really tug the case up or push the iPod down
-The same issue on the back, only this time the case itself kind of gets in the way, unless you raise up the iPod just a bit
Again, with these two issues, I was prepared to deal with this, as I do not use my iPod very much for taking pictures.
-The only other con was the belt clip. Everything about this case feels top-notch, except the belt clip. It felt very cheap, plasticy, and I did not want to use it. The thumb depresor does not work well, and I even had the part attached to my iPod just fall out (after I screwed it in tight) and my iPod fell to the ground. I have not used it since then.
Well, I'm sorry if this is too long or too short! Please, ask questions, and I will post any pictures up as soon as I get home (1:30 am EST)

My brother lost his original iPhone 4 last week, and the insurance replaced it.
I just bought a white iPhone (even though I have a black one & hate white). The reason is due to its greatly improved new antenna. The white is thicker due to the improved antenna.
When compared to the brand new black one my brother got, the white is far better. The difference is so dramatic, nothings been changed on the Antennagate black phone. That's a total shame.
I was shocked, yet happy I could finally buy an iPhone 4 I'm happy with. One that has a good useable phone that doesn't drop calls or break up.
My black Speck Pixel Skin case fits good since it was a bit loose on my black one.
I'm so relieved and happy to have a great iPhone now.
this proves nothing other than build quality varies between phones. it's been shown over and over: the added thickness is not due to an antenna change, but a thicker plastic bezel around the screen, probably for light bleed.
the most they would have done this late in the game is add a clear coating to the exterior antenna band to prevent 'capacitive' shorting across antenna sections, or improve the build quality. nothing to do with how thick the phone is.

Read http://whathaveyoutried.com and http://mikeash.com/getting_answers.html .
You are unlikely to get the answers you seek without giving us a lot more than you already have. Post any code you have tried that doesn't work. Post links to the Java code that you think does what you want, etc...
Especially if this sounds like homework, you need to at least try to solve it.

Device convergence. Cameraphones have been catching up very nicely as of late. I can do so me pretty astounding things with my iPhone 4 camera plus photo software. The only real issue yet to be sorted out is zoom.
Until they start adding a decently sized sensor there will be no true convergence. The iPhone does take great pictures - for a phone. There's no comparison when it comes to a point and shoot camera, never mind a digital SLR.
Both cameras handle low light situations, much better then the iPhone, the aperture can handle faster shutter speeds so you can increase/decrease the aperture and shutter speeds depending on the conditions.
Cameras have way too much ability and performance over a camera phone. They're only catching up on megapixels, sensor size, RAW, aperture, lens, shutter speed have not been addressed on a phone

It looks like OS X passwords are still more secure than Windows passwords, even with an 8-character limit. I was not really able to get Keychain to accept a truncated password. When I was testing the password lengths, I set an 8-character one, was immediately prompted by iChat to enter a password into Keychain, and forgot that I had already changed it from a 9-character one. If OS 10.3 fixes the character limit, the passwords will be even more secure than they are now.

Microsoft has used two encoding schemes, also known as hashing functions, to encrypt passwords. The first, known as LANManager or LANMan, was used by Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Me and early NT systems to secure passwords that were used to connect to early Windows networks.
The LANMan scheme has several weaknesses, including converting all characters to uppercase, splitting passwords into 7-byte chunks, and not using an additional random element known as "salt." While the more recent NTHash fixes the first two weaknesses, it still does not use a random number to make the hashes more unique.
The result: The same password encoded on two Windows machines will always be the same. That means that a password cracker can create a large lookup table and break passwords on any Windows computer. Unix, Linux and the Mac OS X, however, add a 12-bit salt to the calculation, making any brute force attempt to break the encryption take 4,096 times longer or require 4,096 times more memory.

I am currently using a white Macbook (2.0 GHz / 3GB / GMA 950) from 5 years ago and it is performing admirably for most daily tasks; the only that stretches it a bit is my RAW photo editing on Lightroom 3. I process photos from my Canon EOS 60D, so we're looking at ~20MB images.
I'm thinking about getting a new machine and am considering the following. Note that I'm not concerned about the hard drive capacity, since I use external drives extensively anyway.
MacBook Air
13" / 2.13 GHz / 4 GB 1066MHz / GeForce 320M
MacBook Pro
13" / 2.7 GHz / 4 GB 1333MHz / Intel HD Graphics 3000

i would just like the flexibility of not being tethered to my desk...i like to work in different environs.
i know it may seem silly to some, but im willing to pay 90 for that.
i dont even know what my room looks like yet, so i dont know.
thanks for the input guys, is the ability to configure network visibility and passwords included in the software? or is it already located in preferences>network?
thanks

That might put Cisco in its place, being that the 'i'Mac was introduced on May 6, of 1996.
Actually, it was 1998 (http://www.apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=imac&performa=off&sort=date&order=ASC)
Even then, one could argue that Apple forfeited the right to all "i-products" when it didn't sue Compaq for the iPaq....
