I'm a premium subscriber so I am not sure if it works the same way for free account holders but when I open the client a little bar drops down at the top saying share Spotify with your friends or something similar. Click the link and it takes you to the relevant page.
Damn... no cigar. I must have to be a premium member. Thanks anyways. Happy new year to you.

I'm guessing you're talking about folding@home...
Yes, the non-GUI version is muc, much faster. Wait until you finish this WU, then switch. Simple as that.

Thank you for your wisdom mr. llama :)

I started doing it because I have my iMac on all the time...actually, I started folding on my PowerBook G4 running at 667 MHz...not a lot of productivity, but it helped.
I'm excited to get my MacBook Pro (probably this week) and start on it...although the F@H website does not have an Intel version yet.

Bose makes the best speakers for computers and they work with the Mac and I-pod. The best thing is their price--less than $100 (right around that price). They come with the subwoofer builtin, making them easy to move around. They are called Media Mate. They come in a few colors that definitely match the Imac or any other Mac color.
As for which computer--I say stay away from the Ibook. They have a logic board problem that still is not fixed--I know I've gone through 5 of them already.

Thanks for that. Yes it's going to be my first SLR. Parents are willing to stretch to whatever as I never ask for much usually anyways and I'm the kind of person who would prefer to save the money and buy things myself etc.
I know about Tamron and Sigma lens too, I've been looking at those as well. I wasn't sure if 18-55 would be enough and that I might need a new lens in the near future. I forgot to mention, I'm also going on Holiday visiting Hong Kong, China area and before going I'll be playing around with the camera to make sure by the time I go on holiday I'll get the best shots etc.
I'm not sure what Aperture is, as I don't have a Mac is it a photo editing software if so I'm pretty good on photoshop and I'm not expecting to edit my photo too much using those programs as I prefer to take the picture and show it off as it is.
Yeah, I don't really touch my photos in Aperture, you can retouch them and apply effects if you want, but it's mainly for cataloging photos. Kind of like Adobe Lightroom. When I first started out with my Sony, I used it to make smart albums based on a few focal lengths and decide what I wanted to have better, After my niece was born, it was clear that the lens I needed was a 50mm with a big aperture... It is also a lot more useful than those few things - along with Lightroom (just Lightroom is 3 or 4 times the price).
I really like using the far end of my 55-200 in street photography, something I'll be doing a lot more of when I move to NY, as it has a nice reach on it for getting fairly candid photos of people. My 50mm lens is great for getting portraits and is awesome in low light.
You sound like you have your head screwed on in terms of your parents, that's how I was. :)
The 18-200 would be a good option though.

Hi. I'm wondering if mixing and matching even Apple production apps affects their compatibility? Moving "up" to a Mac has been a bubble-buster since I discovered the dark side of legacy software and machines in an "upgraded to Intel" world.
I have a "Late '05" 2.3 dual core PPC 10.5.8 Leopard that came loaded from eBay with all the bells and whistles, assembled, apparently, from a grab bag and I have no disks for the uninstalling and reinstalling tricks.
FCP is version 5.0.4, Compressor is 2.0.1, Logic Studio is 8.0.1, iDVD is 7.0.4 and DVD Studio is 3.0.2. (Do all these fit together? Looks like a production suite made from the parts box. LOL!)
I have Toast 10 Titanium too.
The reason I mention that is, I'm having not only exporting problems with Compressor, quality problems exporting in Quicktime Conversion to AVI, but also burning issues with DVDs that won't play in the living room deck.
Compressor 2 gives me the now-famous Cannot Submit Batch message. I've tried all sorts of fixes -yes, even the Compressor Repair that's made for Compressor 3 and above. Again the legacy thing. After googling for more tricks, I have discovered Compressor 2's "preference file" is missing from Home>Library>Preferences. Hmmm. Maybe a new Compressor is in order? Which version should I install since I have all this mixed bag of wares?
So, Toast won't play, iDVD won't play, Compressor won't compress and AVI from Quicktime Conversion looks like crap. (I understand Toast 9 has good reports but since they "improved" it, I have no use for it. Again, the legacy.)
iDVD let me assemble and burn a DVD but it doesn't play properly. I made an .iso in there and burned it with Disk Utility. The deck plays the menu but I won't know anything else until I find the flippin' remote! That's something to remember though: burning in Disk Utility. That and finding the remote.
I can't even use DVD Studio until I figure out how to import and burn iDVD projects because of the issues between FCP and Compressor. So we're back to square one. FCP>Compressor won't work and it messes me up with FCP>DVDSP. Too bad. I like the Apple production apps but I'm about ready to jam CS4...
Right, well FCP 5 and Compressor 2 were shipped together AFAIK (My copy of STP 1, which was part of the same suite and shipped at the same time came with Compressor 2). iDVD and DVD Studio Pro are different products - again DVD Studio Pro 3 shipped with FCP 5 and Compressor 2 (DVD SP4 ships with FCP6/7 and Compressor 3/3.5) - Logic Studio should have no impact except instead of Soundtrack Pro 1, you should have Soundtrack Pro 2, which should still work "fine" - and iDVD 7.0.4 implies you have iLife installed, which shouldnt impact the pro Apps at all :) If you want to reinstall Compressor, you need Compressor 2 (I dont think Compressor comes with Logic Studio, but since Ive had both for so long Im not entirely sure), but the wares you have do all fit together (Final Cut Studio 1/Production Box, Logic Studio 8 and iLife).

Skype is CPU intensive, this causes the MBA to work harder and the fans to spin to keep things cool. Why every week do we have threads on this? The computer hardware is doing what it is supposed to do. Its like saying "I pushed the "high" button on my blender and now the blender is going faster and getting louder".
I don't mean to sound mean or snippy here its not my intent its just that we have multiple threads like this every day.

Seems that Safari or network is about 10% what it used to be in speed. I recently add the MacUpdate Spring Promo package, and seems some of the programs are POC. Not sure if this is part of the problem because the slowdown happened beore that install I think.

By no problem, do you mean that you feel no difference between 10.6 an 10.7?
Well the cursor is not as fast as in Windows, but it's managable.
I don't notice a difference between 10.6 and 10.7 as far as tracking speed, but I don't do much gaming and mouse speed is not an issue for me.
I don't use Windows on this Mac, so I am not sure about the speed in between Mac/Windows.

im planning on going to southgate, you think if i got there around 7 i would walkout with an iphone? are lines usually big in edmonton? im just here for holidays and thought i should get a new iphone 4. i know in toronto the store is downtown has pretty big lineups. so i was just wondering do lots of people usually line up here?
oh and also does the mall open so you can lineup at the apple store or do you have to wait outside till the mall opens?
If you show up at 7 I'm sure you'll get a phone. But just to be safe show up at 6:30.
Yes there will be a lineup. But with 2 Apple stores and all the carrier stores, I don't think the lines will be ridiculous.
For the iPad launch Southgate let people line up inside the mall. Call the mall and ask, they'll be able to tell you for sure.

As for as I know, it's extremely unlikely for someone to brick an iPhone or iOS device. You can certainly mess up during the process if you are careless, but you would just have to restore it or go into DFU mode. So I wouldn't be afraid.

So H.264 is a very compressed format. That sets off a flag right there. Ideally you wouldn't be provided footage in such a lossy format.
Taking the H.264 footage and converting it to DV NTSC is essentially compressing it again (albeit a lesser compression), but it is still increasing the generation count. Instead, I would try throwing it into compressor and transcoding to apple prores 422. That should hopefully alleviate any loss of quality.
But sadly we don't live in an ideal world :) And this is footage given out for television usage, believe it or not...(do CBS Sunday Morning and the Today Show really like getting footage in compressed h.264?)
I'll try prores 422. My thought was that as the the other footage is DVPro NTSC converting it to DV NTSC would be transcoding to a closely matching format. But it didn't seem to help any...

Basically I want an iPhone 4, but am mostly around WiFi, I'd be ok with some data, but I really don't need it. I'm looking to buy the phone upfront, and maybe $20-$40 for service afterwards, but I'm open to compromise to keep it cheaper.
As of now, I'm using an iPod touch with textfree but I need more stability.
I would like unlimited texting (sms not needed) and maybe 500-1000 minutes a month... any suggestions?
Also, I have no idea how to do a carrier unlock (or when its needed, even) but I do know how to jailbreak.
ANY advice would be appreciated!
You failed to mention whether you are from the US or Canada....If you're from Canada, I started a thread almost a year ago called "The Canadian iPhone thread" do a quick search and there is pages of people talking about and suggesting great plans and retention plans to choose from.
