I took a 1TB external (the small form factor model from WD), created two partitions on it, then installed Lion on one of the two partitions. It runs remarkably well, albeit just a tad slow in some aspects, but I have no major issues and it even goes to sleep! I was unable to install iStat Menus 2 (the last free version), some of the previously-installed apps from the Mac App Store (installed on my internal HDD), or use iProxy, but I really, really like Lion and can't wait for it to be released.
I ran Geekbench and, while I didn't expect a great score, only scored 3661 on a late-2008 MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 6 GB RAM). I'll just put that down to Lion being installed on an external USB2 device.
One thing I really liked was that when you download an app from the Mac App Store, instead of the app being installed in your dock, Launchpad is invoked and the app gets "installed" there.

One more question: Is the soap essential or is it just to keep the skin sliding for readjustment?
I'm not sure, but it probably plays a role in activating the adhesive. You should probably use the soap just in case.

Yes, I'm going to make a moral judgement - if you've just bought a $1200+ computer surely you can afford the $60 to get the three iWork apps from the App Store. If it's tapped out your bank account, wait a few weeks and save up for it.

I also have perceived speed increases on my MBP after the updates. Startups and shutdowns are much faster and the overall feel of the system is "snappier".

I googled this response, but most seem to think that it's due to running Windows 95, or an older Netscape browser, and the PC I just used has XP, Quicktime 6 and as basically all up to date, I think.
Lau, you need QuickTime 7 to view H.264 content.
Depending on the type of content, change your codec to something like Sorenson Video 3 you'll take a size hit, but it should work fine.

I believe that AT&T started handling all the June 14th-15th pre-orders on the 24th, they did not allow walk-ins with out a pre-order. All the phones for sale on the 29th will be first come first serve, though I have not heard if there is a limit per person. They will also start accepting online orders again too.

For me, the ideal would be to have both. I often reference documentation while coding, and having a searchable version on a second monitor is unmatched for efficiency. I couldn't imagine programming in Cocoa without it. But if I am reading a tutorial and following along, I have a very hard time doing that without a physical book.
I have only a couple books (not programming books) that I have bought for the iPad, and find them absolutely impossible to read as well, so it might just be me. For me a physical book is mandatory in some instances. I can't for sure say why though, as the ebook seems better.

I have just purchased an apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse, I think I'm going to get the griffin and purchase a 23" apple display with some money I saved for an iPad 2 but never got due too the rumors of the 3 coming out in less than a year

Have to agree with everyone here. Bought ram to max out my dual 533, my dual 1.8 and this dual amd x2 here. Customer service is great, shipping is quick. Have yet to RMA anything.

That's actually the 'Batmobile' Newton. One of three prototype versions that were superseded to market by the 4th and final version. You can see the three here (with a link to a flickr page showing more pics of the Batmobile version):

This ebay one is missing the bit that actually refers to its name, the batmobile type snap-on cover. Still rare, but without the cover... I dunno. A few were actually made for a TV show in a limited production run (like the Powerbook in Independence Day), something Apple did a bit of back then.

Yeah i have :) it doesnt. Its a cheap 15" analogue TFT from about 3 years ago.
I think i've got enough desk space for another 15".. might look into that. One with DVI, as that would be cool when i'm writing music :D

First, it's ALL 3rd party RAM, since Apple doesn't make RAM. They put other manufacturer's RAM in their computers. Second, upgrading the RAM or hard drive yourself is not a violation of warranty, so there's no need to put the original RAM back before service. Hang onto the original RAM, in case you have a problem with the RAM you buy.

Is a shorten keyboard ideal to learn playing on? I see Garage Band has some lessons but I would imagine as a beginner, the last thing you want is to adjust knobs and sliders to move up/down the octaves.
I like the M-Audio Oxygen 25. Looks like a very compact but has a lot of features.
Any thoughts?
If you actually want to learn how to play a keyboard as an instrument get a 49 key or higher MIDI controller. A 25 key is best used for melodies with one hand. I can also vouch for the Oxygen. A Keystation will do the trick too.
And while the knobs and sliders (the control surface) are not that useful for playing, they're extremely helpful in music production.
After you get your controller, mess around w/ garage band let your needs dictate what gear you buy...
- speaker monitors
- pad controllers (IE MPD's)
- audio interfaces
- better software / instruments
- etc

The difference is the box and the price. The app itself is the exact same whether in the box or downloaded from the app store.
Save some $$$ and download it from the App store. I did and it's a great photo manager.

I understand where you're coming from, but at the same time I went in and am giving them $200, and have spent over $5000 with apple in the past year.
