I didn't meant to hurt feelings here. and i know how Canada is less opportunity for IT folks. but just couple more points.
1) if number of jobs was criterion, India has far higher number of jobs in IT then US, so people should be rushing bk to India which is not the case. I don't think number of Jobs available in US is why people wanna live here. Even if it takes year or a little more, at least Canadians are transparent about the process.
2) I know everyone here is well read and well educated. Read up about AUS, NZ, Canada and few other countries which have point bases system, they are not under developed or backward in any way. Wikipedia might help.
And please read carefully, my wife is on another beauty of a status called H4B, i mentioned clearly i know how easily people got their H1B's through consultants.

Superfund is a hedge fund which has two funds of managed futures. Its enrty was $5K last time I checked. But again in a hedge fund you typically pay 2 & 20. That means 2% maintenance and 20% off the profits and there is huge down side risk where your entire investment can be wiped out. Tread carefully!!

Hi I am a physician in Oregon and my parents are visiting too in July. I called Kaiser regarding this, and this is what I was told.
1. they can get insurance since Kaiser does not need an SSN for the application.
2. Every Plan has a deductible $, an out of pocket maximum $, and a co-insurance $ amount.
So,
Plan A: Deductible 2500, Co-insurance 22% of all inpatient cost upto max of $22,000.
Plan B: Deductible 6000, Co-insurance 50% of all inpatient cost upto max of $50,000.
Essentially none of these plans are a 'good deal'. But remember its easier to pay back a loan of 22k - 50k than to pay back 100-200k.

My post is going to make few MS/Phd people angry over here. Correct me if I am wrong, but when you came here to do MS/Phd, you came on a student visa...Right? Student visa comes under Non Permanent Non Resident alien category. All of you had a burden to prove to the US consulate that after you complete your degree, you would go back to your home country. All of you prepared for that and you knew the moment you said, I might not come back, F1 would be gone! You said this...every time you went back for F1 visa revalidation. Mind you..that H1/H4 never had that burden. They could have easily said that yes, if I like USA, I might not come back.
Now fast forward....MS/Phd is done. Suddenly...."I will go home after MS/Phd" statement is gone..and hunt for H1-B is on! Once they get H1-B, hunt for Green Card starts. Once this heavy head Phd guy, who spent last 5 years on 1500 bucks a month is in GC line....he also realizes that hey, H1-Bs should not be allowed to interfile. After all, they all work for desi consulting companies. Yeah..right! Look who is talking! All H1s should come in EB-3, after all they did not go through 1500 bucks a month for 5 years.
Here comes a Phd guy who always lied to the system saying "I love my home country, my research would do wonders to the society at home" is not leaving any stone unturned to get his GC (faster than anyone else).....tell me, who is inferior? I know many of you may have already thought about this at some point. I'll lay out my views on the donations...IV can object/correct.
I'm following the donations thread along with many of you and there is not much to be excited there.2000$ in 2 weeks....for all the Agenda that pappu has posted. I understand that everyone(including me)...will have limited resources at our disposal every month...may it be mortgage/daycare/medical/school or those unexpected repairs...so the bottom line is there is not much room to increase our monthly contributions or...holiday contributions.
I was thinking...we are 25000 'real' people...and there are more than one visit by each person to this site.

2. Is it possible to get some space on popular pro-immigrant or immigrant driven websites...to donate to our cause?

i am working on H1B and my wife is on H4, she was not included in 485 yet so she is not having EAD, can i change status from H1B to EAD, please advice.

The only way I can explain is that PD depends on approved LC before PD. Such persons can apply for GC because they are current.

Finally I am a US citizen after being 10+ years in this country. This is one of my biggest fulfillments and it means everything to me. US is just not home anymore for me, it is my country.

You can go online and schedule an appointment.. You would need select service on a pending case.. There is no option for pending name check, you have to go the window and explain.. Depending upon service rep, you may or may not get any info... I am trying to figure out if something can be done in situations like ours... FBI name check was a major problem for may people and it took years in some cases.. But, there was law suite and judge ruled that a case must be adjudicated if name check has been pending over 180 days. This helped in clearing large no of pending cases.. A new memo was issued which stated that IO has to get an approval from head office if name check has been pending for more than 180 days...

Well if we were to carry your reasoning a little bit further ...being a citizen of a country, any country, is only a privilege and not a right as you have to follow the rules and laws of the country.
The actual difference is in the definition as has been pointed out earlier.....
"right" - is something you can ask for because you think it is reasonably fair
"privilege" - is something you are not entitled to or deserve but nevertheless get because someone condescended to give it to you.
By the above definitions what would would classify getting permanent residence as.... the answer lies in the broader way of how we look at life and live it.
Do we always live in fear and cower in front of real and imagined threats - the GC is then a privilege.
Or do we live an honest life - do the best we can - and stand up for what we think is right or wrong irrespective of whether our lives are directly affected or not. The GC then is a right.
Getting a GC in United States is our dream. Following rules and following laws of the system is all what we can do. We can only highlight the defects in the system and ask for a change.
We live a honest life not out of fear of getting caught, but because we believe that that is the right thing to do.

I have visitor insurance for my mother who is visiting us. Recently she developed some symptoms. The insurance company told us that since the symptoms were due to a condition that originated while she was in India, it is a pre-existing condition.
My advice to you all is to get a physical checkup for your elderly parents in India once in a while. At least you would know if there are any issues which come with old age and you can take an insurance covering those existing conditions.
