I'd rather have T-Mobile than Verizon just because of costs. T-Mobile actually has decent plans compared to other cellular companies.

I was drawn to this forum because I am interested in computers generally and macs almost qualify.....but seriously I poked around on a mac for about an hour today, and found that some things are less intuitive (minimizing and closing windows). Also I found that some things easily accessible in windows are not accessible at all in mac OSX. I felt like the computer was "dumbed down" for me. I was maybe 300 in a line of 500+ at Willow Bend Mall. Waited 5 hours, got to spot 50 from the door, and they ran out.
The sad thing was the lack of information being provided by Apple to us waiting in line. There were maybe 150 in line still when they clearly ran out. The line sat unmoving for about 45 minutes when news was finally announced that they ran out. I don't understand why they had us stand there for 45 minutes to tell us they were sold out?
During past launches, Apple passed out free water, or took inventory counts against the people waiting in line. This time nothing from Apple but a bunch of Apple employees that had no idea how much inventory they had until they were all out.
I don't know why they didn't allow pre-reservations, either, this time around.
So this launch, in my opinion, was a little wild and disorganized compared to launches of days past.

Not surpising at all. It's all about control of content and money.
All studios, rather music or movie have always hated the idea of selling content even though it makes them a ton of money. If they could do away with all of it, including DVD sells, they would. What they truly want is for you to pay a fee every time you want to view or listen to content and you never "own" anything period. Nothing physical at all to buy, just pay for it every time you view or listen.

I've just installed Lion on a blank drive on a new Air and this is in Software Update. I'm definitely running DP2 as it says in the dialog. Is this telling me to update to something I already have or is there a DP3 I haven't heard about?

It's just a minor (supposedly, not enough people have looked into the deeper changes) upgrade, nothing much new - though you do have to use Xcode 4.1 DP 3 to make applications after updating. Guess that counts... sorta. :P

I bought my 3DS for Zelda, so as it's not out yet. It's just what it is.
The original DS wasn't exactly a WOW factor at launch and for many -- especially the press -- it was considered a complete joke as they praised the PSP. Its launch line up was worse than the 3DS, but years later its games and sales speak for itself.
The NDS (at least in the UK) launched with Mario 64 DS and Wario Ware Touched, two great games rated 85 and 81 by metacritic.com respectively.
The 3DS has Street Fighter.

Could you provide a little more detail of your situation? Which program(s) create corrupted PDF files? Is it only Firefox? Which version of OS X are you running? SL? 10.6.7? When was the most recent time you were able to create a PDF that was not corrupt? Yesterday? Weeks ago?
I just created a PDF from FF 4.0 on 10.6.7 and it worked just fine. I went to about firefox so I could figure out what version of FF I had and it downloaded and installed an update (4.0.1). I'll "print" again just to test...
You mention Acrobat. That really is not needed on OS X. I used it briefly when a certain prof was sending out indecipherable PDF files but I never allowed it to become any kind of default and I haven't run it in close to a year. BTW, printing to PDF worked for me again on 4.0.1. You should be able to use Preview and Quick View on any PDF you have created on your machine.

No, they just need Internet access.
I am limited on the gear I have at my disposal. Current setup is a Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem -> SonicWall TZ-100. From there I have a AirPort Extreme that is bridged providing wireless and a AirPort Express extending that. I *think* I can do some sort of VLAN setup from the SonicWall. Then use the AirPort Express as a guest AP.
I'm mainly a systems guy so while I won't shy away from doing some networking here and there but i'm not very familiar with how VLANs are configured. It is something I will look into though so thank you.
I'd love to go wired but in this case it's simply not possible.

I just don't understand all the speculation over the last 3 years regarding carriers for the iPhone. Get over it, people. If it happens, it happens and Apple will announce it. Until then, ANY carrier is a viable candidate.

can you please explain to me (or provide a link where it's explained) the benefits of using a 30 pin connector in comparison to a usb port? is it maybe so that apple can sell more adaptors? (i'm not sarcastic on this one, i'd really like to know)
There is an advantage to the user and to Apple.
The advantage to Apple is that they OWN the connector and will or won't grant other companies the right to include that connector into their products. So you'll never see a Microsoft or Android phone sporting Apple's connector.
The user can drop their iDevice into a bedside radio/clock or into a slot in their car dash and have their iDevice automatically integrated into that appliance or vehicle.
This means when you set an alarm on your iDevice, your bedside radio knows it and wakes you with music or alert through the larger radio speakers. Your iPhone GPS can become part of your car's navigation system, while your iPhone can become also become a hand's free phone using your car's sound system. Plus, you still have all your alarms, Address Book, and calendar available to you via voice command.
Life is good for you, and in Appleland prosperity reigns. :)

Has no one else thought of the security implications of this? They are allowing people to connect complex computer devices to the electronics system of an airplane. What is to stop someone from writing a virus that would infiltrate the plane's computers and cause it to crash? With all the crazy precautions they take regarding toothpaste, it's hard to see how they could miss the obvious.

guys, if you really want to make some SERIOUS word-processing, i suggest you to try the LaTeX system :)
LyX is what i miss most since i switch from linux to mac.

I agree, I just made the switch. Once you're familiar with LaTeX, which will take some time, you will think anything else (including Word) is crap. I use TeXShop (http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop), which I think is good, but I haven't tried any others.
